Imagine an AI coding assistant proposes a patch for a bug in a small application. The changed code handles user input and saves records. It looks plausible, but you have not validated it yet.

What is the first check you would make before accepting the change?

Choose one priority and explain the failure it would help you catch. You might reproduce the original bug, inspect an assumption, review input handling, or examine an important edge case.

Experienced developers can be specific; beginners can describe the behavior they would want to verify. A small invented example is welcome.
